Top Credit Cards

If you look around the internet eventually you are going to find a list of top credit cards. Lists of top credit cards are everywhere.

It is unavoidable given current industry conditions and this is partially because of the high demand for top credit cards that exists in the marketplace today. Nobody really seems apt on doing their own detailed research on credit cards and even if they wanted to, figuring out where to start can be difficult. For this reason, people use lists of top credit cards as a starting point for where to look in the credit card industry and then go from there in order to find a credit card that suits them well.

This is a good approach to take and one that has helped many people find their own top credit cards after some shopping around, but if you are going to take this approach and look at lists of top credit cards, there is really something you need to know beforehand.

The word top is a word that is subjective in nature, meaning that different lists of top credit cards will have different credit cards based on what the reviewer's personal experiences, biases and needs happen to be. If you are like that person, chances are very good that their top credit cards will also be your top credit cards. However, you need to look at any list of top credit cards with that fact in mind. A list is only as good as the person that created it and for that reason certain credit card recommendations will be terrible for you, just because the person recommending them is not like you at all.

For this reason, you should do one thing before you start looking at lists of top credit cards. You should sit down at a table and figure out what you want from your credit card. This doesn't need to be some deep and soul-searching piece of prose, but rather it just needs to be a list of priorities for what you hope to get out of your credit card. Do you want a credit card that has a low interest rate, or do you want a credit card that has low fees? Would you like a credit card with a cash back rewards program or a travel rewards program? If you want a low fee, low interest rate credit card that has a travel rewards program, what order of priority do those three things have just in case you are unable to find one that has all three to your satisfaction? These are the types of questions you should think about before you search for the top credit cards, because it is a lot harder (and a lot more dangerous from the impulse purchase point of view) to make those decisions on the fly when you are looking at lists of the top credit cards.
